National Award-Winning Child is a huge Salman Khan Fan

National Award-Winning Child is a huge Salman Khan

Shams Patel plays the role of a fan of Salman Khan in Thanks Maa. He also happens to be one in real life. The boy, who has won this year’s National award in the Best child actor category, confesses that he has given relief to his parents and made them proud. “I am average academically. So, they feel that, at least, I have made a name for myself in another field. My parents are very excited. I am too."

Shams belongs to a business family with no cinematic background. “I got the role in Thanks Maa because the director Irfan Kamal is my Mama (maternal uncle),” confesses Shams candidly. “He asked me to undergo an audition along with many other hopefuls. I had no prior acting experience. My interests are football and cricket, not acting. But when my uncle told me to try my luck, I agreed. I never thought that I would get the role. After I bagged the role, I attended workshops.”

Even more of a surprise was the National award. “I was thrilled on winning the National award. If it wasn’t for Irfan Kamal Sir (director Irfan Kamal) and Abhay Sir (acting coach Abhay Joshi), I wouldn’t be here.”

Speaking like a true professional, Shams confesses, “I am not much interested in acting. I did Thanks Maa because of my Mama. But I do watch films and am a huge fan of Salman Khan. After Thanks Maa, I will meet Salman for sure. I don’t know what will be the outcome of the film."
